Terms of use

Last updated 3 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Isma (“we”, “us”). By using the app you accept them. If you downloaded Isma from the App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies too; where the two differ, these terms add to it, they don’t take anything away from it.

The app

Isma helps you learn Arabic with short clips of real video, word-by-word subtitles and spaced-repetition reviews. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it on devices you own or control, for your own learning.

Subscriptions and the free trial

Videos and other content

Clips play from YouTube in its official player, and remain the property of their creators. Your use of them is also subject to YouTube’s Terms of Service. The subtitles, translations, word notes, the Fanak character, the name Isma and the design of the app belong to us. If you believe something in Isma infringes your rights, write to rawaz@theisma.app and we’ll look into it promptly.

Fair use

Please don’t copy, resell or redistribute the app or its content, try to get around the paywall, scrape our servers, or interfere with how the service works. We may suspend access for anyone who does.

Our responsibility

We work hard to make Isma accurate and reliable, but translations and notes can contain mistakes, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. Isma is provided “as is”, as far as the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

Changes and ending

We may update the app and these terms. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies. You can stop using Isma at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protections of your local consumer law and can bring claims in your local courts.
